In an attempt to uphold the truth in courts of justice, 50 lawyers intend to sue the American administration and the British government over "their complicity in the crimes committed by Israel in Palestine".
The initiative is led by lawyer Wiekus van Rensburg, who in recent weeks began sending letters to several countries and to the International Criminal Court, to demand the prosecution of Israelis and their supporters, and preparing to sue both governments.
Rensburg stressed that the United States must be held responsible for the crimes it has committed, as someone has to set limits for it, amid its recurring violations and waging wars around the world to support its interests without considering the expected consequences. For decades it has been busy spending money and resources, as well as using its allies as a tool to ignite conflicts in the region.
In the same context, South Africa’s Minister of Justice and head of the team of lawyers, Ronald Lamola, explained that the case brought from South Africa against "Israel" will be dealt with according to international law standards, stressing that this case will put an end to Israeli arbitrariness.
He emphasized that what happened to South Africa during the "Apartheid" regime is also happening to "Israel", as both parties exist in the Convention on the Prevention of Genocide, and this is a greater moral duty to prevent any genocide.
It is noteworthy that South Africa bases its lawsuit against the Israeli entity on the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, ratified in 1948. In this case, the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice concerns holding states accountable for policies and actions of officials affiliated with them, which may constitute a violation of their international obligations stipulated in this treaty.
