Crises continue in Sudan, as United Nations experts expect an imminent famine after the conflict enters its second year. The war that broke out on April 15, 2023, led to the death of about 15,000 people and the displacement of 8 million, while 25 million people need urgent assistance.
Justin Brady, head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan, warned of the deteriorating humanitarian situation, noting that without more resources, the famine will not stop and no one will be able to provide basic assistance.
The ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces has led to a deterioration in the security situation, forcing international agencies to move from the capital, Khartoum, to Port Sudan - eastern Sudan, and most of the food rations that people receive from agencies such as the World Food Program have been reduced by half.
For his part, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, confirmed that he is not ready to negotiate with the Rapid Support Forces, as long as the war continues, and pointed to his commitment to the “Jeddah Platform” and the necessity of “Rapid Support” implementing the commitments it made.
