Poison arsenic books

Nothing beats the pleasure of reading, so how about if they are old books, the feel of the letters engraved on their covers takes you on a journey to the nineteenth century when they were first published, but you do not know that those letters you just touched may be a trap that will lead you to your death.

Scientists have discovered the presence of the toxic chemical arsenic in the covers of 200 books around the world, leading to their immediate removal from some libraries due to health concerns.

Scientists have described these books as “polluted works” as a warning of their danger, which may lead to respiratory problems and cancer.

Regarding the motives for using arsenic, at that time a bright green dye was used in book covers instead of expensive leather, but people did not know that the arsenic used in the dye was “extremely toxic.”
Last week, France's National Library removed four of its books with emerald green covers that contained arsenic.

The researchers tagged titles, including an 1862-1863 Horticultural Society book and two volumes of Edward Hayes' Stories of Ireland from 1855.
