If you want restful sleep, it is important not to brush your teeth before bed!
A new study has revealed that the mint flavor in toothpaste can disrupt sleep because it acts as a stimulant that keeps you alert, in addition to improving memory and response.
According to dentist Chris Winter from the website "Sleep.com," mint can have detrimental effects on your sleep because it is known to increase dopamine. When dopamine is released in the brain, it promotes wakefulness and alertness, which is the opposite of what you want before sleep, and it disrupts the calm routine.
Mint works in a similar way to blue light, which is a high-energy visible light emitted by mobile phones and televisions.
Many experts recommend avoiding the use of phones before sleep because the blue light easily passes through your eyes and signals to the brain that it's time to wake up. The strong flavor and smell of mint toothpaste do something similar, so if you have difficulty sleeping, it may be time to switch your toothpaste.
