In conjunction with the decline in the prices of broilers and eggs, shawarma prices decreased, according to bulletins issued by the catering company, but the differences between stores may sometimes reach 40 thousand Syrian pounds.
 

In numbers, the price of a kilo of shawarma ranged between 150-190 thousand liras, while its price, according to the bulletin, was 120 thousand liras, while the price of a shawarma sandwich reached 30 thousand liras, and according to the bulletin, 22 thousand liras.

Since the citizen has no right but to wonder about the disparity in prices, restaurant owners have justified that the reason for the difference is due to the shawarma mixture, its cost and quality, which means that the 40,000 is nothing but the quality of the "mixture".

On the other hand, the Director of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in Damascus, Maher Bayda, explained that the discrepancy in the price of shawarma and other fast food and the failure to adhere to the official directorate’s pricing is due to the fact that some restaurants price their food by the Tourism Directorate and others by the Internal Trade Directorate according to the restaurant’s description, and on This basis, there is a price determined by the Tourism Directorate and a price determined by Consumer Protection، Here, the latter is only responsible for the restaurants listed under its classification in the event of a violation, and there are periodic tours in addition to the importance of reporting violations by citizens in the event that there is a price that differs from the official price, and in this case the penalty is raising prices and its penalty falls under the penalties for serious violations within Decree 8 of 2021.
