Many retired workers are forced to join work again instead of rest, after most of them spent many years, more than 30 years, serving in state institutions. The living situation no longer allows anyone to sit without work, even if they are retired.
Many retirees in Syria are forced to return to work in order to support their children who are still studying, as the requirements for education are endless, from transportation fees, the price of lectures, and side expenses on the one hand, and household expenses, such as food, drink, clothes, and medicines, all of that, and the retirement salary is no longer sufficient except for several Hours on the other hand.
In addition, not all retirees who decide to return to their work return to their primary professions, as many are forced to work in different professions for many reasons that prevent them from practicing their old work, as happened with “Mona,” a retired nurse, who cannot work in another specialty other than her job. But she had to look for a new job to support her children.
And many others who were government employees, we now see them working as taxi drivers after retirement, because the economic situation is bad and no one is allowed to sit at home.
It is worth noting that practicing work after retirement is due to economic reasons, such as an increase in prices and the high cost of living, and therefore continuing to work is necessary to cover daily needs due to the weak retirement salary. The other aspect that pushes many retirees to resume work, even if it is not in their specialty, is to avoid depression and the feeling of boredom. And isolation.
