Many children in Syria are missing the main food they need in their early stages of life, either because of the loss of certain types of milk, or because of its ridiculous prices, to the point where many families give their children chamomile or anise to stop crying from hunger for a while.
According to the Pharmacists Syndicate, a decision was issued to raise the price of infant formula “Nan 1 - Nan 2” to 115,000 Syrian pounds per package sold in pharmacies, an increase of 15,000 Syrian pounds over the previous price bulletin, while the prices of the rest of the pharmaceutical items remain the same according to the official bulletins issued.
The union pointed out that the tours are frequent and always present at pharmacies, as the number of seizures exceeds 150 per week, due to increased prices, the absence of a pharmacist in the pharmacy, or the monopoly of milk cartons.
Some types of infant formula are witnessing a loss due to monopoly operations by some merchants and manipulation of their prices, which constitutes an obstacle for many families, especially those with limited income, as the cost of containers of infant formula over the course of a month is equivalent to the full salary of a government employee.
