After a relentless struggle with the coronavirus pandemic and its various mutations, strange diseases are now emerging and racing to wreak havoc on bodies already exhausted by poverty and war. As if the Syrians did not have enough to deal with, a new deadly disease has appeared, spreading rapidly and causing devastation.

According to the Hematology Department at Al-Mouwasat University Hospital in Damascus, Syria is witnessing cases of a disease called "Frfr," which indicates a deficiency in clotting platelets.

In this regard, Al-Mouwasat Hospital provides free treatment services annually to approximately 30 to 40 patients with Frfr disease, which is considered a serious blood disorder. Without treatment, the disease leads to the death of 80 to 90% of the infected individuals, while 60 to 70% of cases recover with treatment. However, approximately 30 to 40% of patients still experience a decline in their condition.

Medical sources at the hospital state that this disease is rare in the community, but the number of cases seeking treatment at Al-Mouwasat Hospital is significant. These cases receive free treatment, including the transfusion of fresh frozen plasma and expensive immunotherapy.

Regarding the spread of Frfr disease, it is prevalent worldwide, including in Syria, with a prevalence ranging from 1 in 50,000 individuals to 1 in 200,000 individuals in the population.

There are two types of infection: genetic and immune-related. The genetic type cannot be cured, and death occurs in most cases at a young age. On the other hand, the immune-related type can be treated, and its main symptoms include fever, hemolytic anemia, low platelet count, and kidney damage.
