Arab and international voices are rising to end the conflict in Sudan, as attention turns to the Arab League, which is calling for an Arab and international alliance to save Sudan from its current crisis. Sudan, which has been suffering from conflict for two years, needs hope now more than ever.
In a statement issued by it, the Arab League stressed the necessity of Arab and international alignment with the Sudanese people who aspire to end the conflict, while Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, described the current situation in Sudan as “the worst era in the country’s history since its independence.”
In a speech he delivered at the Paris conference on Sudan, Zaki confirmed that millions of Sudanese have abandoned their homes to remote places within the country or to other countries. He added that humanitarian activities in the country have almost stopped, and the country is on the verge of famine.
The war that broke out on April 15, 2023, left about 15,000 dead, 8 million displaced, and 25 million people in dire need of assistance.
