In a move to raise funds for primary schools, the 3-year-old Lincoln goat is preparing to become the first honorary mayor of the town of Fair Haven in the US state of Vermont.
The town has a population of no more than 2,500 people, and it has no human mayor, but it has organized open elections for animals whose owners must pay a donation to primary schools.
The selection of "Lincoln" came after the townspeople voted on a ballot containing 16 pets, and in addition to Lincoln, most of the other candidates were dogs and cats.
Lincoln won 13 votes over the dog "Sami", who received 10 votes, while the other candidates combined received 0 votes .
Lincoln Goat is scheduled to begin his new position, and will continue in the position for one year.
