There are many and many studies and research dealing with the topic of suicide, a topic that causes the death of a million people annually around the world, but there is a study that says that mental health lies in eye health.
According to a research paper published by the American journal JAMA Network Open, sensory impairments, especially visual impairment, are potential risk factors, as poor vision is associated with an increased risk of suicide.
Based on an examination of the relationship between poor vision and various aspects of suicide, and the primary outcome was based on measuring the odds ratio for suicidal behavior, the researchers found that poor vision was associated with an increased risk of suicide, including suicidal ideation, suicidal behavior, and suicidal death.
The researchers concluded that eye health is important for overall mental health, and it is recommended that clinicians remain alert to elevated risks and be prepared to implement appropriate suicide prevention measures when needed, especially when dealing with adolescents.
