The municipality of the Italian city of Milan intends to take measures to prevent the eating of ice cream and the sale of other products after midnight.
According to a municipality official, this is due to the noise caused by people in the streets after this time, in an attempt to maintain peace and calm for the residents.
The new rules set by the municipality include prohibiting the sale of drinks and prepared foods, such as pizza and ice cream, in 12 vital areas in Milan. The municipality justified these measures by the need to find a balance between the social and healthy life of the population and economic activity.
These measures are scheduled to begin on May 7 and last until early November, and will be implemented in several areas of the city, including Navigli and Paolo Sarpi.
Although the decision included all types of ready-made meals, opponents particularly objected to the ban on selling “ice cream” late at night, as it is considered part of Italian culture.
