An American citizen was surprised when a strange object fell on the roof of his house in Florida, before he discovered that it was related to the debris of a projectile from space.
The homeowner wrote on the “X” platform that a metal object “torn the roof and crossed two floors” of his house, almost hitting his son.
In its comment on the incident, the US Space Agency (NASA) said that an object that fell from the sky last month on the house of an American man was a large piece of debris ejected from the International Space Station.
The accident occurred at a time and place that closely matches official expectations of the burning of part of a shipping platform carrying old batteries that were disposed of from the orbital station in 2021, which suggests a link to the accident in Florida, according to space observers.
“Based on examination, the agency concluded that the debris is a support from NASA’s flight support equipment used to mount the batteries on the charging platform,” she said.
NASA pledged to investigate how the debris escaped complete destruction in the atmosphere, adding that it would update its engineering models accordingly.
She continued: “NASA will remain committed to operating responsibly in low Earth orbit, and reducing risks as much as possible to protect people on Earth when space devices must be launched.”
