When modern technology intersects with racial bias, it is natural for storms of controversy to arise sweeping the arenas of the digital world, and it seems that this time the storms were over the head of Google, which witnessed harsh criticism because of a smart tool it employed in a way that fueled the flames of racism and mockery.
Although Google has stopped the feature of creating photos of people using its smart model “Gemini”, the controversy and ridicule about it is still continuing on social networking sites.
The company canceled this tool after criticism from some users due to images it created that were incorrect and inaccurate regarding some racial differences.
However, some users on social media sites, especially the “X” platform, are still posting pictures of people with originally white skin with dark skin, in explicit criticism of Google.
Many sarcastic images were spread on the platform under different titles, all of which were critical of Google. The owner of the “X” platform, Elon Musk, was the first to criticize Gemini’s errors, describing them as “racist and anti-civilization.”
On the other hand, some users praised the diversity that the Google model tried to achieve in creating images with the aim of correcting racial bias in training artificial intelligence, but the correction was exaggerated and misplaced.
The controversy over private AI has sparked a broader debate about the ethical implications of AI technology and the responsibility of technology companies to ensure their products reflect accurate and unbiased views.
