Fires have increased recently in the capital Damascus, for logical reasons, and others that inadvertently occur due to the need for the fire trigger such as a "heater" for example. However, the fire brigade proves itself by containing them.
Last year, the Damascus Fire Brigade carried out 2,425 missions between extinguishing and rescue operations, according to the commander of the Damascus Fire Brigade, Brigadier General Daaoud Umairi. The total number of fire missions reached 4,591, with regular fires (house - factory - workshop) ranking first with 588 missions, followed by 356 electrical fires, then 272 weed fires, and then 110 vehicle fires.
Rescue missions reached 81, and the total number of injuries during the whole year reached 148 injured and 20 deaths. The brigade also received 26 false alarms.
Brigadier Umairi, commander of the brigade, stated that there are 10 fire stations spread across Damascus, in addition to the main center being able to cover Damascus Governorate and support the countryside, other governorates. These centers are: Damir Project Center, Ibn Al-Nafees, Sheikh Muhyiddin Neighborhood, Al-Nasr, Khan Al-Jouz Center, Al-Ameen Neighborhood, Al-Qaboun, Al-Mazzeh, Al-Rabwah, Al-Ashmar, and Barzeh Fire Center.
Umairi pointed out that the brigade is divided into three companies, each one is on duty 24 hours to respond to citizens' calls through contacting 113, and the brigade is ready to respond to any call after the worker takes the detailed address and directs the fire crew from the nearest center to the detailed address."
